Bringing to light the history of African American Christian music from its tragic slavery days right through to contemporary artists such as Kirk Franklin, and Yolanda Adams. Narrating the growth of the spirituals from Dr Watts hymns; the rise of songwriting superstar of the '30s Thomas Dorsey; the '50s Gospel Highway, Mahalia Jackson and the civil rights movement; intertwined with the music industries efforts attempts to cash in on the black church's creativite consciousness.
